POOR HOUSE and WORK HOUSE
Charlton Mackrell used to have a Poor House, opposite the church. The Langport Union Work House was in High Ham parish, just south of the main road into Langport. Further information on both is available here.

SHOPPING in THE CHARLTONS Until recently we had 2 pubs plus 2 shops and a garage, but now there is only one shop (the Post Office in Charlton Adam) and no garage. Thankfully we still have 2 pubs though - the "Fox & Hounds" in Adam and the "Greyhound" in Mackrell !! |
